Amelia’s Big Girl Room Design Inspiration

rug, throw, quilt, girl print, chandelier, flamingo print, canopy bed, sheets, tassel pillow, mirror, pink pillow, basket

I’ve been planning Amelia’s big girl room for a while but until I put this collage together this week I was kind of all over the place. Realistically, we can’t replace everything in her room right now (and I actually love a lot of the pieces we do have), so we’re reusing things like her pink rug (this is the exact one in this collage and I still really like it), her duck blue vintage mirror (my aunt refinished it and I love it, this one is similar but very pricey, this one is a similar blue & less expensive!), and I already bought her light blue crochet lined sheets (these are similar- I bought Target’s Simply Shabby Chic but can’t find the exact ones I bought online). I actually have two pink/peach/cream medium scale gingham print throw pillows that I got on clearance ($5 each!) from Target a few weeks ago but couldn’t find them online so substituted these pink ones for the collage.

I don’t have anything else yet except for a mattress we recently got from Leesa that I’m very excited about! This gold canopy bed and this crystal chandelier are both currently in my Wayfair cart and I found both prints on Etsy. The girl print is by one of my favorite artists, Clare Elsaesser– if you’ve been around here for a while you probably remember me talking about her work here (we used one of her prints in our new powder room). The flamingo is just a really cool print that I think would tie in the pink and I like the vintage vibe (our house was built in 1922) and the whimsy it adds to her room.

The yellow throw pillow pulls in the yellow from the girl’s dress, the light pink throw pulls the pink from the throw pillows and adds warmth, the light blue floral quilt matches the light blue sheets which I didn’t initially want to do but I actually think it is better that way since I’m bringing in an awful lot of color everywhere else. It also mutes the pattern a bit which is also good because I’m print mixing, too. My mom said it looks like old lady-ish (which I clearly love) and Joe said that’s ok because Amelia is an old lady. It made me laugh because it’s true!

I also bought this dark pink basket (it also comes in mint) from Target for Easter so it works out that it looks really cute with this color scheme I’ve got here. We don’t have curtains yet and I’m still unsure as to whether I want to do long white curtains (she had them in her old room and I loved them but she only had two windows there and now she has three) or roman shades (I kind of want bamboo roman shades in multiple rooms in our house). Feel free to give me your suggestions, please!

Ok, if you’ve gotten this far, thank you! I really love interior design/decorating (did you see my post on our kitchen renovation design inspiration?) and love pulling things together that you typically wouldn’t think would work. My style is very eclectic, vintage, somewhat feminine and somewhat classic or traditional, and English country cottage chic so a lot of times people can’t always see my vision as it seems relatively all over the place until you can physically see it. Then, usually, it works out really well. Sometimes I can’t even see it fully and it takes me a couple of times to get it right, hence, the collage so that I can physically see everything before I begin. It’s really helpful, kind of like a mood board! Anyway, if you would be interested in anything like this for yourself or in seeing more posts like this, please let me know! Hope you’re having a great week!
